Two owners, two halves of dentistry

Haymarket Dental has stood beside Haymarket station for more than a century, and since 2009 it has belonged to Drs Andrew and Kiki Norman, who qualified together at Newcastle and took it on as a married couple. The division of labour is deliberate: Andrew places every implant that goes into a patient here, while Kiki takes cosmetic cases only. The practice is private, family-owned and open to new patients.

Treatments and services

Everyday care covers examinations, hygiene, white fillings, root canal treatment, extractions including wisdom teeth, crowns, bridges, dentures and children’s dentistry. Tooth replacement runs from single implants to implant-retained dentures and All-on-4 arches. The cosmetic side is Invisalign, composite bonding, porcelain veneers, whitening, smile makeovers and porcelain or gold inlays. Emergency appointments are kept for patients in pain.

Five scanners and a milling unit

Seven dentists work with five digital scanners — three iTero and two CEREC Prime — so impression putty has all but disappeared. The CEREC milling unit cuts crowns, inlays and onlays from e.max ceramic on the premises: the tooth is scanned, the restoration designed on a colour 3D model and fitted within a single day, metal-free, instead of the two or three visits weeks apart a laboratory crown needs.

The dentists

Kiki Norman has provided Invisalign since 2006 and works to one question — how do you improve a smile without drilling teeth down? — so bonding and aligners come before veneers. Andrew Norman trained through the eighteen-month PID academy programme and belongs to the Association of Dental Implantology. Nashvin Padayachee spent three years in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Abigail Sanders-Dutton holds a postgraduate diploma in aesthetic and restorative dentistry and practises intravenous sedation. Alison McIntosh, a Dundee graduate of 1998, sees every age group.
